Rehab Centers For The Repeat Offender

Treatment- Detoxification, Chemical Correct, Psychotherapy

Why do many people who are convicted with a charge of ‘Drug and alcohol abuse’ inevitably go to Rehab centers several times? Aren’t rehab centers supposed to fix them?

Actors, rock musicians and sports men and women are some of the most exposed celebrities to suffer from drug and alcohol abuse. Completing Inpatient rehab does not automatically mean people are cured from their Drug and alcohol abuse. Often, people have had cravings that continue long after the inpatient rehab is finished.

Inpatient rehab recognizes that drug users cannot be treated successfully through a stale, cut-and-dried plan. That type of treatment can’t bring much relief for their personal problems, and those issues are likely to be at the focus of their drug and alcohol abuse.

Treatment

Recovery is an ongoing process that has three phases. Do not bother with Inpatient rehab that encourages outpatient ‘detox’, these measures do not work. Care needs to be taken in every phase of the treatment to ensure that celebrities do not resume a life style that encourages a relapse.

Detoxification

One of the most crucial phases involved in treatment is ‘detox’. This is the process through which the user can begin to heal from drug and alcohol abuse. Once the substance is no longer being introduced into the body, withdrawal symptoms will occur. This is normal and very unpleasant. It is important to be in inpatient rehab during this process, because it can be dangerous to attempt ‘detox’ alone. Some drugs have withdrawal symptoms ranging from seizures to death. If a person is addicted to benzodiazepines or is a heavy drinker, withdrawal can be dangerous and should be done under medical supervision.

Inpatient rehab can help this process to be as painless and quick as possible, usually taking 30 days. Rehab centers have to be licensed to deal with ‘detox’ phase. Many users have tried to stop using substances, but have given up when they began to experience withdrawal symptoms. Changes in the brain chemistry from drug and alcohol abuse, make ‘cravings’ a difficult period, which is why ongoing support is important.

Chemical Correction

A direct correlation has been made between diet / drug and alcohol abuse recovery, and the essential nutrients and vitamins needed by the body. In order to nurture a healthier mind, and stop the root of drug and alcohol abuse problems, where they often start, a diet has to be maintained. Diet strengthens the body to purge toxins. Along with a proper diet, a good vitamin supplement regiment is necessary because much of the vitamin, mineral, and amino acid stores, which are the building blocks of neurotransmitters in the brain are lost during Drug and alcohol abuse.

Certified staff at rehab centers create an effective plan of action to safely guide the users body back to optimum condition. Alcohol can prevent their body from maintaining its usual tight control on blood sugar levels, causing low blood sugar concentration and diabetes. Low blood sugar is one of the main causes of fatigue and weakness that people experience as part of a hangover.

A drug, designed to stop the euphoric effects of alcohol, could one day be used to prevent reformed alcoholics from relapsing. The drug, which blocks a stress receptor, could not only stop alcoholics from relapsing, but also stop pleasurable feelings gained from cocaine and food. This drug has great potential to treat not only alcoholism, but also other stress-related disorders. It physically binds to a receptor in the brain called CRF1. The receptor blocks CRF, a chemical released by alcohol to create pleasurable feelings. It won't help with withdrawal symptoms. Naltroxone, which affects opioid receptors, is often effectively used in combination with counseling to stop relapse, but for some people it has little or no effect.

Reformed alcoholics should avoid stress and taking of alcohol while being stressed. They should have a diet that supplements the loss of vitamins, minerals in their lifestyle.

Psychotherapy

Drug users and alcoholics in recovery, experience depressed moods for up to a year or more as their brain re-establishes from the drug and alcohol abuse.

Psychotherapy has come to be used to refer to a wide variety of therapies that give repeat offenders an insight into their behaviors and to help them resolve conflicts. The various psychotherapies are often complex and the course of therapy unpredictable, rendering them more difficult to evaluate.

There are four types of therapies: general counseling, confrontation, group psychotherapy, and individual insight-oriented psychotherapy.

General counseling refers to a supportive, directive, reality-based treatment, which is not specifically behavioral or confrontational.

Confrontational Interventions are concerned with breaking down defence mechanisms, especially denial. Confrontation often involves forceful feedback aimed at countering "resistance" to change.

Group psychotherapy is used in addiction treatment. The format and focus of the groups vary widely. Some are confrontational while others are supportive . Behavioral and marital therapies fall outside the range of interventions. This is the treatment that Alcoholics Anonymous uses.

Individual insight-oriented psychotherapy seeks to uncover unconscious conflicts and dynamics that are believed to cause excessive drinking. Goals are to give the user an insight into their problems and to help them work through unresolved conflicts originating in childhood.
